September is National Preparedness Month and we've learned a lot from our disaster recovery work over the years.
Although the Portland Area and surrounding areas do not get too many storms we can certainly see our share of large wind storms that oftentimes lead to power outages.
If a large wind storm is expected or an ice storm that could lead to a power outage, turn your refrigerator and freezer to their coldest setting to ensure the contents stay as cold as possible for as long as possible. Try and limit how often you are opening the doors to refrigerator and freezer to help keep them as cold for longer and do not eat food that has warmed past 40 degrees.
